Stoßdämpfer sind Sicherheitsrelevante Bauteile
Schlechte Straßen, Schlaglöcher, Schmutz, Korrosion durch Salz und Nässe beeinträchtigt ihre Stoßdämpfer in der Funktion. Je nach Fahrweise erfüllen Stoßdämpfer schon nach 60.ooo km nur noch zum Teil die Funktion.

Folgen defekter Stoßdämpfer
Abgenutzte Stoßdämpfer verlängern den Bremsweg im Vergleich zu intakten Dämpfern.bis zu 6,1 m, bei 80 km/h. Mit nachlassenden Dämpfern wird auch das Kurvenverhalten deutlich schlechter. Elektronische Sicherheitssysteme wie ABS, ASR und ESP werden durch defekte Dämpfer stark in ihrer Wirksamkeit reduziert, da die Reifen nicht mehr konstant auf der Straße gehalten werden. Auch erhöhter Reifenverschleiß ist eine Folge.
